You'll also have a chance to assist with swim lessons, participate in ongoing lifeguard training, and learn about basic pool maintenance. It's the perfect job to build your confidence, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and create positive summer experiences for both you and the patrons you serve.If you're 15 or older, love the water, and want to make a difference while having a blast, Lifeguard 1 is the role for you!This is a limited part-time position. Neighborhood pools are set to open Monday, May 25, 2026.Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and candidates will receive an update on their application status. Candidates who meet the requirements will be contacted for interviews closer to the anticipated hiring timeframe, beginning in March. Bargaining unit:no union representation.

Posting may close at any time.Examples of Work PerformedMonitor assigned recreational pool area to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions, by practicing preventative lifeguarding.Recognize and respond effectively in emergenciesEnforce all City of Wichita Parks pools policies and proceduresAssist with swim lessonsParticipate in regular in-service trainingAssist in cleaning the facility and related areas and maintenance and operation of pool equipmentThese examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.At no time should any other job duties interfere with the primary responsibilities of a lifeguard:The safety of the patrons.Requirements of WorkAbility to listen to, read, interpret, and apply instructions receivedAbility to lift empty containers weighing up to 60lbs up to a 4 ft heightAbility to lift and move large, sometimes bulky objects weighing up to 80lbs with assistanceAbility to climb steps or laddersAbility to move about quickly and stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop or squat, as needed to perform assigned tasksAbility to work outdoors in unpleasant weather conditionsAbility to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditionsAbility to climb onto and sit on a lifeguard tower for extended periods of timeAbility to physically perform life guarding activities, including techniques of swimmer rescueAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.Experience and TrainingRequired experience and training:Must be at least 15 years old or older.Applicants must satisfactorily demonstrate required skills including swimming, CPR-PR and first aid.Must receive Red Cross Lifeguard training by June 25th, or within 90 days of employment, whichever comes first.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.Preferred experience and training:Preferred to have a current American Red Cross CPR-PR, First Aid, and LGT certifications.Offers of employment are contingent upon passing American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of a criminal record check.
